Overwatch

Overwatch is a team-based multiplayer first-person shooter developed and published by Blizzard Entertainment, first released in 2016 for Windows, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. Players select from a roster of heroes divided into tank, damage, and support roles, each with distinct weapons and abilities, and compete in objective-based modes such as payload escort and control-point capture. The game is built on a proprietary Blizzard engine and uses a client-server architecture with dedicated servers and a seasonal competitive ranking system.

A free-to-play successor, Overwatch 2, launched in 2022 and replaced the original client, changing the standard format from 6v6 to 5v5 and shifting to a seasonal content and battle-pass model. In February 2026 Blizzard dropped the “2” and reverted the title to Overwatch, resetting the season count annually and introducing year-long story arcs; it is currently available on Windows, PlayStation 4/5, Xbox One/Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch, with cross-platform play.
